🌿 “El Jardinero”: the Netflix series putting Galicia on the map
(and the script with new themes, finally!)
Netflix in Galician mode
If you're someone who waits eagerly for every new Netflix release, you've probably heard about *El Jardinero*, the new series that’s making waves. But what you might not know is that much of this mysterious, visually striking story was filmed in Galicia. Yes, our Galicia—the one that smells like eucalyptus, tastes like seafood, and looks like the perfect movie… or top-tier series setting.
It was about time, right? For years, Galicia has been synonymous with drug trafficking stories in fiction. And while that's part of our recent history, we have so much more to tell. *El Jardinero* proves it: a new Galician narrative is emerging—one where our landscapes are tied to art, visual poetry, refined drama, and complex characters.

🌲 Galicia: more than sea and witches—now also a filming set!
*El Jardinero* blends suspense, drama, and natural beauty in perfect doses—and for that, it needed a setting that didn’t just accompany the story but elevated it. Where did they find it? In Galicia, of course. From the dense forests of Ribeira Sacra to the wild coast of O Barbanza, and even lost villages where time seems to have stopped.
Netflix chose Galicia for its unique atmosphere, soft light (even in the rain, it looks cinematic!), and that mix of natural mystery and haunting calm that no other place offers. And the best part? It was filmed with Galician production companies, local technical crews, and extras. A full commitment to what’s ours.
📍 Galician locations featured in El Jardinero (no spoilers)
It was filmed in several locations across Spain, mainly in the city of Pontevedra and surrounding areas. In addition to Pontevedra, filming also took place in Madrid and Toledo, as well as towns like Cambados, Vilagarcía, and Tomiño.
Pontevedra:
The city was a key setting for the series, with locations like Praza da Ferrería, the Cidade de Pontevedra Canoeing School in As Corvaceiras, and the Pazo de Lourizán.

Cambados, Vilagarcía and Tomiño:
These towns were also used for filming scenes, including spots like the Ruins of Santa Mariña de Dozo and the Pazo do Mosteiro.
O Grove and Vilaboa: These towns also add extra visual richness to the series.
At Hi Galicia, we always say it: Galicia must be on the map—not just as a place to vacation or eat well (though that too), but as a creative, vibrant land full of opportunities. That’s why we created this seasonal guide: to give visibility to the projects, places, and people that make this land unique.
🌍 Galicia shows itself to the world (and that’s exactly what we need)
*El Jardinero* helps us do just that. It connects us to a global audience, lets us be seen through different eyes, and gives us the chance to make visitors drawn by the series' locations also discover local entrepreneurs, small brands, artisans, hospitality workers, producers, and artists who are part of Galicia’s real fabric.
🚀 Tourism, industry, and Galician entrepreneurship
Thousands of people around the world are searching for “Where was El Jardinero filmed?”. And the answer is Galicia. That search might end in a visit, a booking at a rural house, a tasting of DO Ribeira Sacra wines, or a purchase from a small Galician business. And that’s where we come in, from Hi Galicia, to help make it happen.
Because when we are seen, we all grow. Yes to tourism, but also to local economy, culture, pride, and roots.
So now you know: if you watch the series, look at everything—not just the plot. Look at the trees, the skies, the houses, the paths. That’s all Galicia.
